WHAT IT’S ABOUT
Ron White continues to strike out with a successful solo career out of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour. His latest live show, “Behavioral Problems,” is presented uncensored and extended from the original Comedy Central broadcast. In the show, White hits on the raunchy humor in various subjects like hotel rooms, Cosmopolitan, parking attendants and our beloved troops overseas.
WHAT I LIKED
I am a huge fan of anything that is politically incorrect. Having spent plenty of time in educational institutions and working for media companies, I’m constantly annoyed with the attitude that we need to apologize for pointing out the obvious or speaking the truth. It is for this reason that I greatly respect everyone involved in the classic Blue Collar Comedy Tour.
I was first introduced to Ron White by a friend of mine who loved White’s down-to-earth delivery and straight talk. Watching the “Ron White: Behavioral Problems” DVD presented me with a very similar delivery and subject matter.
Not everything that White says is laugh-out-loud funny, but when he hits a chord, it’s absolutely hilarious. The fact that White comes from a checkered past gives him the courage to make jokes about everything from drug use to marital infidelity. There’s a truth behind what he says that, when presented in a stand-up performance, can make you laugh because you have clear experiences with those subjects.
As with most comedy DVDs that have an original broadcast on Comedy Central, it’s nice to have the uncensored version on your television. With a comedian like Ron White, who delves into some very adult material with very adult language, the uncensored version is the way to experience things.
Finally, part of the charm of this live performance is that Ron White makes some pretty hilarious flubs in his delivery. I’m not exactly sure why he confuses pizzas with peaches, or the USO with UFOs, but it provided some very funny moments that humanized White and made the show even funnier.
WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE
There are some moments where White digs himself into a hole a bit, and sometimes the raw profanity does seem a bit lazy. But I suppose that White himself might admit that he can be lazy at times, from what I can tell from his style of comedy.
One other thing that I can complain about with this DVD is the lack of extra bonus features, which could have definitely enhanced the experience.
And finally, I do wish that White would get a hair cut, ‘cause that Nicolas Cage mullet just ain’t workin’ for him.
DVD FEATURES
Like many stand-up DVDs, there are several bits from White’s comedy act included in the deleted scenes section, hilariously titled “Shit That Didn’t Make the Cut.” While this “shit” only includes three stand-up bits and a behind-the-scenes somewhat candid bit in the bar after a show, some of these moments are funnier than the “shit” that actually made the cut.
Bonus material includes White’s experience on the “Rickety Piece of Shit Bridge” that takes tourists to Sanibel Island, his thoughts on the “Brokeback Mountain” phenomenon and a hilarious bit about the largest grizzly bear ever killed on record.
WHO’S GOING TO LIKE THIS MOVIE
