The first time I ever heard of the “My Scene” girls was when my kids ordered a Happy Meal at McDonald’s, and they ran out of the toys for little boys. We ended up with tiny version of the Barbie dolls from Mattel. These were labeled “My Scene” and given the respective doll’s name.

Fast forward several months, and I had the arduous task of watching “My Scene Goes Hollywood” on DVD. This series follows the Mattel characters of Barbie, Madison, Chelsea, Nolee and Delancey as they piss off women’s libbers and indulge in everything material.

If you ever wondered if the image of Barbie is sexist, you only need to watch this film. It is so unabashedly stereotypical of what you’d picture Barbie to be, it’s enough to make you sick. The “My Scene” girls care about nothing but shopping, accessorizing and looking cute. Even boys are on the back burner if one of their outfits isn’t up to snuff.

In this feature-length film, the “My Scene” girls get hooked up with a movie that’s being shot in town. The film stars Lindsay Lohan, who actually lends her voice to her animated image here. For some strange reason, Lohan’s image and name is absent from the DVD box, even though it is a no-brainer to keep it there in order to increase sales. (Maybe Miramax parent Disney doesn’t like Lohan’s current tabloid image. One can only guess.)

Madison manages to get a small part in the film and is suddenly propelled beyond her friends to star level. She starts hanging out with her cute male co-star and palling around with Lindsay Lohan (whose image in the film is seriously toned down while they’re on the town). Soon, her friends wonder if her success hasn’t gone to her head.

With some incomplete looking computer animation and seriously cliched plot points, “My Scene Goes Hollywood” appears to have heart, but really it’s just a big advertisement for Barbie toys and accessories.

The DVD includes several interesting features, including Chelsea’s Celebrity Fashion Finder, Madison’s Superstar Challenge, Nolee’s Movie Memory Game and Delancey’s Fav Embarrassing Moments. There’s also a Personality Profile that will give you a test to determine which of the “My Scene” girls you most represent. (For those that are wondering, I’ve taken the test several times myself and been categorized as both Delancey and Madison. Go figure.)

Specifications: Dolby Digital Stereo Sound. Widescreen (1.85:1), enhanced for 16x9 televisions. Spanish language track; English language subtitles for the hearing impaired.
