The Playhouse Disney series “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” has released a new DVD with which the kids can kick off the summer. “Mickey’s Big Splash” takes Mickey, Donald, Goofy and Minnie into four episode of summer fun-themed shows.
Episodes included in this DVD are: “Donald’s Ducks,” “Pluto’s Bubble Bath,” “Mickey Goes Fishing” and “Pete’s Beach Blanket Luau.”
WHAT I LIKED
As far as current preschool programming goes, I do enjoy “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” quite a bit. It plays well to the younger audience, and by using tried and true characters from the Disney canon, it ensures that its audience will enjoy the show.
This particular DVD is a nice way to prep your kids for the summer activities. While you may not be traveling to Hawaii for a luau, it’s beach-themed stories will get everybody in the right mindset.
Like other “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” releases, this disc teaches the kids some good values and life skills. It also provides problem solving and interaction along with way with Toodles the Mousekedoer to help the gang figure things out.
WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE
While I do enjoy “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” and recognize its positive effects on kids, I wish the quality of animation could be better. A lot of computer generated television comes off as very low-rent, with bright colors but modular design. Even the old fashioned stop-motion work on shows like “Jojo’s Circus” has a better production quality. Still, the simplified animation in “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” falls in line with other series like “Handy Manny” and the new “Special Agent Oso.”
Along with the four episodes of the “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse,” the disc comes with a bonus game, “Fun in the Sun with Mickey and the Gang.” For my sons, who enjoy the set-top games, these are always a treat to play.
