“How I Met Your Mother” holds a special place in my heart. As a “Doogie Howser” fan, I initially sought out the show in support of Neil Patrick Harris. After two seasons, I’m glad to say my devotion has paid off.

Ted Mosby (Radnor) is the central figure of “How I Met Your Mother” who narrates for his children the story of how he met their mother and all the women and events that led to their meeting.

“How I Met Your Mother” is possibly the first show since “Friends” to have a cast with such great chemistry. Add to that the fun and humor each actor brings to his role and you’ve got a knock-out comedy. Neil Patrick Harris’ Emmy nomination should be enough to convince you of the awesomeness of his character, but Barney is really something you have to witness with your own eyes…and ears.

Significant episodes in this season include the secret of “Robin Sparkles”, a plot line so spectacular as to inspire its own MySpace page. Wayne Brady also stops by as Barney’s gay counterpart/brother in a legendary episode; plus the disaster-ridden Aldrin-Erikson wedding masks the surprising season finale.

The DVD includes commentary on a number of episodes as well as the “Robin Sparkles” video, which if you don’t know what I’m talking about, you need to find out. Also check out the gag reel and “How We Make Your Mother” featurette.

"OUR VERY OWN"

DVD EXPERIENCE: *1/2 (out of 5 stars)

    STARRING

    Keith Carradine as BILLY WHITFIELD
    Jason Ritter as CLANCY WHITFIELD

I was in search of an inspirational and uplifting movie when I picked up “Our Very Own”. The cover synopsis for the DVD suggests “a heartwarming, hope-filled story”, but sadly, “Our Very Own” is quite the opposite.

Clancy Whitfield (Ritter) lives in a small Tennessee town home to four other friends and absolutely no recreation whatsoever. Any description of this film is likely to suggest a movie about friendship; however, the plot is anchored on the story of a troubled family comprised of Joan (Janney), Billy (Carradine) and their son Clancy.

The themes of friendship and fulfilling one’s dreams are negligent next to the horribly depressing tale of a family suffering from both financial and emotional strains. Additionally, the close of the film brings about no closure and no hope for the future.

Acting alone earns “Our Very Own” the two instead of one stars. Allison Janney has yet to disappoint me as an actress and she gives a somewhat heart-wrenching performance as a powerless wife in a marriage drowning in alcoholism.

If the movie isn’t disappointing enough, the DVD surely will be. French and Spanish subtitles are the only “features” on the DVD.
