Columbus, Oh., May 23, 2004. - In only his second professional eating competition, 7M Pictures’ CEO Kevin Carr suffered a heartbreaking loss. On Friday, May 21st, Carr went head to head with other professional eaters in the Zyng Noodle Eating Championship. The contest was organized by the International Federation of Competitive Eating (IFOCE), which supervises and regulates eating contests around the world. Carr, along with fifteen other gurgitators was challenged to eat as many Shanghai noodles within ten minutes. Shanghai noodles are thick Chinese wheat-based noodles, renowned for being difficult to consume competitively. Carr took an early lead in the contest and was the favorite to win before suffering a “reversal of fortune” in the last nine seconds of the match. According to IFOCE rules, such a “reversal” is grounds for immediate disqualification. Prior to Carr’s disqualification, he had consumed nearly four pounds of noodles, which was almost twice the amount of his next closest opponent. Columbus native Brett Barna won the contest with 2 pounds, 7.2 ounces. “Buffalo” Jim Reeves of Buffalo, Ny. came in second with 2 pounds, 5.1 ounces. Brian Subich of Johnstown, Pa. finished third with 2 pounds, 4.9 ounces. “I hit my volume capacity,” said Carr after the devastating loss. “But now I really know my limits, and I’m prepared to win at the next contest.” Highlights from the eating contest can be seen on 7M Pictures’ web site, www.7mpictures.com. Carr also consumed 78 1/2 chicken wings in 12 minutes, roughly equivalent to 2 1/2 pounds of chicken meat, in the Frank’s RedHot buffalo wing eating contest in Cleveland last year. He plans on competing in more IFOCE events, which are held throughout the year around the country. Visit www.ifoce.com for more information on competitive eating.
