7M Pictures Short Film Cause Accepted to the Ohio Independent Film Festival

Columbus, Oh., October 12, 2002 - 7M Pictures announces their short film Cause has been officially accepted into the Ohio Independent Film Festival.

Cause tells the story of a troubled man who must face abuse, betrayal and murder in his family. The film’s heavy plot is told in a non-traditional fashion, beginning with the last scene and progressing backwards chronologically. As each new scene commences, a critical piece of the plot is revealed, leading the audience to a surprise ending - or surprise beginning, rather.

Kevin Carr, the director of mockumentary Going Corporate, an official entry in the 2001 Ohio Independent Film Festival, wrote the screenplay for Cause. He was inspired to write Cause after watching the award winning animated short film T.R.A.N.S.I.T. by Dutch filmmaker Piet Kroon. T.R.A.N.S.I.T. was likewise told in reverse order and followed a murderer from Egypt across the European countryside.

Cause was directed by Kelly Carr, who also directed the award-winning short science fiction film Ghost Reader.Cause is a highly emotional piece, needing strong actors,” says Ms. Carr. “I knew I needed actors who could tackle this powerful script and expose their very personal emotions.”

Ms. Carr called on Cincinnati actor Cliff Jenkins to play the main character of Sam. Jenkins has extensive experience in theater and film. He recently concluded a successful run of Shakespeare’s Macbeth in Dayton, Oh., in which he played one of the witches. Jenkins played opposite Lisa Vana, a veteran of theatre and the performing arts, who took on the challenging role of an abused wife.

The Ohio Independent Film Festival, located in Cleveland, Ohio, was established in 1994, and it is the largest event in Ohio for the display of international, independent short and feature-length films. The Film Festival & Market is the only avenue in Ohio where distributors look for different independent works to purchase and/or develop. The festival will run from November 2nd until the 10th.
