Columbus, Oh., July 8, 2002 - 7M Pictures' award-winning short film, Ghost Reader, and 7M Pictures' new television pilot, Ziking Cinema, will show at the world's largest Science Fiction/Comic Book Convention, The San Diego Comic-Con International on Thursday, August 1st at 3:30 p.m. "We are very excited to be showing at the San Diego Comic-Con this year," says Ghost Reader director Kelly Carr. "This enormous convention is the place for fans of comic books, movie memorabilia, and everything related to popular culture. Not only will die-hard fans of science fiction and fantasy be there, but entertainment industry professionals will be abound." Ghost Reader is the story of a time when humans have lost the ability to read. In the film, humans rely on mechanical servants called Ghost Readers to read to them. However, one man soon learns that the Ghost Readers are not as benevolent as they first appear. Carr, a Columbus resident, worked in conjunction with the Ohio Film Commission to shoot the short film at the Thurber House, the family home of James Thurber. "I loved the irony of making a movie about a civilization that can't read and shooting it in the home of one of America's greatest writers," she says. The San Diego Comic-Con International is a nonprofit, educational organization that is dedicated to creating awareness and appreciation of comics and related popular art forms. This year's Comic-Con will take place from August 1st through August 4th at the San Diego Convention Center. These four days are packed with tons of activities that any popular culture fan will enjoy. There are hundreds of exhibitors schedules, a multitude of guest including Ray Bradbury, and activities such as a masquerade ball. Visit www.comic-con.org for up-to-date information about the San Diego Comic-Con. This year also marks the first year the Comic-Con will exhibit independent films. Along with Ghost Reader, 7M Pictures will show their latest television pilot, Ziking Cinema. Director Kevin Carr says, "Ziking Cinema is made for fans of bad 1950s science fiction movies. After all, a bad science fiction movie can be great if the right people are watching it." Ziking Cinema sends up the 1953 3-D classic Robot Monster in a style reminiscent of the cult television show Mystery-Science Theater 3000. "It's amazing to have two of 7M Pictures' films shown at the San Diego Comic-Con this year," adds Carr. "We are excited to talk to fans and industry professionals about our projects and everything else 7M Pictures - and Columbus - has to offer the world of entertainment." Ghost Reader and Ziking Cinema will show on Thursday, August 1st at 3:30 p.m. in Room 1AB. Both directors will attend the event along with 7M Pictures company President John W. Mader and Secretary Chris Alexis. For more information on Ghost Reader and Ziking Cinema, please contact 7M Pictures at (614) 439-3456 or 7m@7mpictures.com.
