Columbus, Oh., February 23, 2002 - Two films from 7M Pictures won special audience awards at the Drop Your Shorts Film Festival, in Columbus, Oh. The audience attending the festival voted the science fiction short film Ghost Reader "Best Drama" and Jon Osbeck and Kevin Carr's MANN series as "Best Comedy" at the festival. Drop Your Shorts was presented by the Columbus Film/Video Consortium, a networking group of film professionals in Columbus, Oh. This was the second exhibition of the Drop Your Shorts film festival, which premiered last summer in Columbus. The 7M Pictures film Michael Meets Miranda also showed at the festival and received a very positive response. Ghost Reader, directed by Kelly Carr, is the story of a time when humans have lost the ability to read. In the film, humans rely on mechanical servants called Ghost Readers to read to them. However, one man soon learns that the Ghost Readers are not as benevolent as they first appear. Carr worked in conjunction with the Ohio Film Commission to shoot the short film at the Thurber House, which is where James Thurber lived in Columbus. "I loved the irony of making a movie about a civilization that can't read and shooting it in the home of one of America's greatest writers," says Carr. Ghost Reader has been entered in the festival circuit and has been showing regularly at the Detonate Film Expo in Miami, Fl. Carr, who recently wrapped production on her second short film, also is working with 7M Pictures to develop a feature-length script of Ghost Reader. The MANN series, directed by Jon Osbeck and Kevin Carr, features a barrage of physical comedy and slapstick humor in the tradition of Rowan Adkinson and the Three Stooges. MANN captured the "Best Comedy" award for three short segments: MANN in love, MANN in trick or treat and MANN in babysitting. The MANN series, which has been described as a "live action cartoon," is also being featured at the Detonate Film Festival in Miami. Trailers for Ghost Reader and MANN are featured on the 7M Pictures web site at www.7mpictures.com. About 7M Pictures 7M Pictures seeks to make Columbus, Ohio the "Hollywood of the Midwest."
