World Premiere of 7M Pictures' Michael Meets Miranda

Columbus, Oh., February 23, 2002 - 7M Pictures latest film, Michael Meets Miranda premiered at the Drop Your Shorts film festival on February 23. Drop Your Shorts was presented by the Columbus Film/Video Consortium, a networking group of film professionals in Columbus, Oh. This was the second exhibition of the Drop Your Shorts festival, which premiered last summer in Columbus. Michael Meets Miranda was written and produced by Nancy Heiden, a playwright from Columbus who penned the stage play Members of the Tribe, which tells the story of a rabbi who discovers that he is gay. Members of the Tribe had two successful runs in Columbus and will hit Off-Broadway in New York later this year.

Michael Meets Miranda is a drama about a 15-year-old girl dealing with her parents' divorce. She runs away from home to live with her father in New York. When she gets to New York, the plot takes a new twist on dealing with a step parent as Miranda comes face to face with Michael, her father's partner.

The film stars Frank A. Barnhart, the founder of Act Out Productions, a for-profit theatre venture focusing primarily on the presentation of gay and lesbian drama and recent Off and Off-Off Broadway plays. Newcomer Abigail Klein, who has extensive experience in theatre, made her screen debut in Michael Meets Miranda.

Michael Meets Miranda drew a warm reaction from the audience at Drop Your Shorts. Although the film was not slated for competition due to its 25-minute running time (only films under 20 minutes were allowed to compete), numerous audience members wrote in votes for the film in the "Best Drama" category.

The film was directed by Kevin Carr, who also directed the office politics mockumentary Going Corporate, which was an audience favorite at festivals in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Cleveland, Michigan and Oklahoma.
